Any camera decision will obviously take relative prices into account. The listed launch prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The R50 V was launched at a somewhat lower price (by 24 percent) than the X-E4, which makes it more attractive for photographers on a tight budget. Usually, retail prices stay at first close to the launch price, but after several months, discounts become available. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down.

With 26MP, the X-E4 offers a higher resolution than the R50 V (24MP), but the X-E4 nevertheless has marginally larger individual pixels (pixel pitch of 3.76μm versus 3.72μm for the R50 V) due to its larger sensor. However, the R50 V is a much more recent model (by 4 years and 1 month) than the X-E4, and its sensor will have benefitted from technological advances during this time that enhance the light gathering capacity of its pixel-units. The Canon EOS R50 V has a native sensitivity range from ISO 100 to ISO 32000, which can be extended to ISO 100-51200. The corresponding ISO settings for the Fujifilm X-E4 are ISO 160 to ISO 12800, with the possibility to increase the ISO range to 80-51200.

In terms of underlying technology, the R50 V is build around a CMOS sensor, while the X-E4 uses a BSI-CMOS imager. Many modern cameras cannot only take still pictures, but also record videos. Yet, some cameras only have an electronic shutter, while others have an electronic shutter in addition to a mechanical one.
